7 Critical Times to Moisturize Your Skin (+Other Fun Skincare Tips)

Taking care of your skin should be a daily habit. When you moisturize daily you are reducing the chance of developing extreme dryness or oiliness, which one or the other will highly depend on your skin and the environment.

Moisturizing your skin does the following:

  • Helps your skin be softer and more elastic.
  • Helps you look (and feel) younger.
  • Helps keep your skin hydrated.
  • Helps prevent your skin from becoming dry and irritated (acne).

So, when is the best time to apply body lotion?

7 Times You Should Be Moisturizing

🚿 After A Shower. Moisturizers work best when skin is hydrated, like when you are slightly damp immediately after the shower. It’s a great way to seal in the moisture.

🏃 Before Exercising Outdoors. This is more important when the air is cold or dry. It can help reduce dryness that may occur post-workout.

🪒 After Shaving. Shaving is great at removing unwanted body hair but it also removes the lop layer of surface skin cells (similar to exfoliation). Soothe skin irritation and protect your skin against dryness.

🛌🏼  Before bed. When we sleep, moisture is pulled out of the skin, so applying lotion right before bed is essential.

🧼 After Washing and Sanitizing Your Hands. Prevent irritation and chapping by applying lotion immediately after you wash or apply hand sanitizer.

✨ After Exfoliating. Or after you use a body scrub in the shower, you should always moisturize. It helps soothe the top layer of skin and strengthens the moisture barrier.

✈️ Before and After Flying. Airplane cabins are known to have extremely low humidity (less than 20%), which leads to skin dehydration and dryness.

So, the best time to moisturize is, well, any time! What are some other helpful skincare tips?

Bonus Tips To Help You Take Care of Your Skin

What are a few other behaviors that can lead to better skin?

☀️ Always Use SPF. When you use SPF daily, you can protect your skin’s appearance and health at any age. It prevents sunburn, premature aging, and other serious issues.

🧼 Always Wash Your Face. Your skin renews itself while you sleep. If you leave makeup on, you prevent that magic from doing its best work. Leaving makeup on all the time prevents the skin from breathing which leads to fatigue.

🥤 Stay Hydrated. When you are hydrated, your skin is hydrated, meaning it increases elasticity. Fight off wrinkles and give your skin the nourishment it needs to glow.

🚿  Limit Bath Time. This might come to a shock to bath lovers but you should really limit your baths (and even showers) to 10-15 minutes. And if you are REALLY trying to take care of your skin then stick with lukewarm water.

🧼  Avoid Strong Soaps and Moisturizers. Not all soaps/moisturizers are created equal. Look for products that are specifically made for sensitive skin, as these generally don’t contain harsh surfactants and alcohols. Avoid parabens, toxins, harsh chemicals, dyes, sulfates, fragrances, and petroleum products.

🛁  Pat Dry. This is a random one. After you wash your face or get out of the shower, do you rub your body dry? Rubbing can actually irritate your skin, especially dry or sensitive skin. Stick with patting dry. P.S. This also goes with wiping off sweat while working out. Don’t rub your sweat off, just pat it off, or just sweat it out ;).

Daily Moisturizing for Long-Term Skincare

Your skin changes as you age. The outer layer (your epidermis) thins and over time you’ll notice that your skin might appear paler, and rougher.

Take care of your skin, so it can continue to take care of you (and look good too). Your skin is a waterproof, insulating shield that guards your body against damaging sunlight, harmful chemicals, and extreme temperatures. So, why not return the favor?

Daily SPF use, moisturizing, and avoiding harmful chemicals are just a few of the daily habits we can make to take care of our skin now and in the future.

Skin care is important to us, so we make sure to create products that are natural, safe, and effective. From our Lotions and body washes! Since skin care starts from day 1, we have products that are safe for ages 0+ and products made specifically for mom and dad too!

So, the only question left is, when is your favorite time to moisturize?
