Daily Skin Habits to Protect Your Skin Now and Forever

Daily Skin Habits to Protect Your Skin Now and Forever

Itchy, irritated skin is so annoying! Especially, when it’s on your child. When your child has an itch, they will scratch it until it bleeds, causing further issues.

Wondering about skin irritations and how to better deal with them? We will scratch that itch.

We’ll be covering top causes for irritated skin and how to deal with them.

Skin Rashes in Babies and Children

Before we jump into discussing rashes and skin irritations, we want to say that you should always check with your child’s pediatrician if you have any concerns. Trust your intuition, do your research, but consult with a professional.

What are the top skin problems in children? They are usually bug bites, scrapes, Eczema, and bruises. If you have a baby still in diapers you can add a diaper rash to that list.

When it comes to Eczema treatments, they usually focus on four common problems:

  1. Dryness
  2. Itching
  3. Irritated Skin (Inflammation)
  4. Infection

Though your child might NOT have Eczema, you can still focus on these four issues. Starting with good lotion to relieve some dryness/itchiness and see how that affects the skin. Pay close attention to the ingredients in your lotions because fragrances, sulfates, some alcohols and other harsh ingredients can often irritate skin that you’re trying to moisturize. If you are still seeing issues, it might require advice from a medical professional

And when it comes to diaper rash, experts recommend changing diapers every two hours, making sure the diaper isn’t too tight (to prevent chafing) and to make sure the diaper area is completely dry before applying diaper cream.

Skin Irritations in Adults

As we get older, our skin issues don’t disappear. And one of the top issues is itchy skin (pruritus).

Your skin might look normal or it can be red, rough, and bumpy. Repeated scratching can cause the skin area to bleed or become infected.

Other common skin problems in adults include: Atopic dermatitis (Eczema again!), Acne vulgaris, Rosacea, moles, and more.

You also can’t forget about sunburns and bug bites. Those don’t disappear with age!

As you age, your skin tends to become drier, scars pop up (from years of just living), and you notice more stretch marks.

Taking care of your skin should be an everyday habit.

Here’s what you can do!

Daily Skin Habits for the Entire Family

Your skin is unique, so you might find that while you are okay with a hot bath, your child’s skin isn’t! Cater these tips to you.

Tip #1: Moisturize your skin daily. Hydrated skin is actually less oily. Crazy, huh? If you let your skin get too dry, your body overcompensates by producing more oil (which clogs your pores). Keep that skin plump and supple with daily moisture.

Tip #2: Stay hydrated. Hydration comes from the inside out, so drink up on that water. Body hydrated means skin is hydrated.

Tip #3: Apply sunscreen. Many people assume that they don’t need sunscreen if they are staying indoors all day. But experts still recommend wearing it. Sunlight that comes through the windows and even skin-damaging light (Ultraviolet A (UVA) rays, Ultraviolet B (UVB) rays, Blue light) from your computer screen can affect your skin!

Tip #4: Take care of your gut. So much of our overall health starts in the gut! Research suggests that probiotics help feed the good (healthy) bacteria that helps to balance the skin’s pH, which helps protect it against free radical damage.

Tip #5: Apply relief to those bug bites. Bug bites left on their own leads to scratching, which can further lead to scarring and possibly infection.

There are plenty of additional skin habits we can incorporate into our daily routine, but these five tips are easy to implement right away.

Bum Balm and Llama Lotion for Skin Wins

There are two products that we grab every single day to protect our skin. Our Llama Lotion and Bum Balm.

We love Llama Lotion for its silky smooth formula that hydrates and moisturizes even the most sensitive skin.

And our Bum Balm All-Purpose Cream. The name might have you assume that it’s only for diaper changes but that is just ONE of the purposes of this cream.

Our Bum Balm is gentle and safe enough for babies but strong enough for adults.

It can be used:

  • To soothe fiery irritated skin (diaper changes, chafing, etc.)
  • To provide the best moisture barrier with Non-Nanoparticle Zinc Oxide
  • To soothe insect bites and stings
  • As a soothing night-time balm for chapped hands

If you’re looking to take care of your skin with a few daily habits, make sure you keep Llama Lotion and Bum Balm handy!
