If you live in an area with noise pollution, place the noise machine safely between the source of the noise and your child. Always make sure to check for loose cords and ensure that your child can’t reach the noise machine or cord.
Encourage your child to get as much natural light as possible during the day, especially in the morning. Bright light suppresses melatonin. This helps your child feel awake and alert during the day and sleepy towards bedtime. Encourage them to be active and not sedentary during the day. Walking, jumping, playing and being active helps set the mood for sleep later.

Are you constantly battling your kids to go to sleep or stay asleep? You’re not alone. **Proper sleep plays a critical role in children’s development.** Everyone from infants to adults can benefit from quality sleep. Unfortunately, sometimes it is easier said than done. If you and your little one are struggling to get healthy sleep, take a look at our tips. Many fellow parents (including some of us at Wink!) have been there too.
Since 2008 we have been helping parents and children sleep without the use of drugs or harsh ingredients. We’ve created this sleep guide titled 7 Steps to Perfect Sleep for Toddlers. We guarantee if you follow these steps consistently, and are patient, this will help your toddler sleep in their own bed and you will sleep more.

Now that you have found your sweet spot, let's create your sleep plan. At this point, you know how many naps your little one should take and ideally how long each of those naps should be. We also know, based on that last nap time, what your toddler's ideal bedtime is. Creating a plan gives you an outline to follow and a step-by-step routine to repeat every night for bedtime. Toddlers feel safe when they have structure and boundaries even if they fight bedtime. If things are unpredictable, it can lead to confusion and big emotions. This is a plan that you can physically write and map out (with pictures) for your toddler to see. Doing this gives them a chance to visualize the plan and know what part is coming up next. Simplify the plan as needed to fit for your child’s needs, and start going through it nightly. You will want to ensure there is nothing in the plan that makes your child rely on you for bedtime.. Examples of this are: back rubs to fall asleep, laying with them until they fall asleep, etc.
Never had a routine before? Here is a solid routine that you can adapt and adjust to fit your toddler.
There are foods that should be avoided and foods that should be eaten to promote a good night's sleep. Let’s start with what to avoid.
Keep in mind, nut butter is usually sweetened. Avoid the ones with added sugar so their blood sugar does not spike and dip throughout the night.

You know your baby best, so don't be afraid to follow your gut. You may feel under qualified but no one is better than you to be their mom. Listen to your instincts, mom intuition, and stress less.

Hi! Welcome to the “New Mom Guide.” This guide is a compilation of all the things we (mom’s and dad’s here at Wink) wished we would have known before starting the 4th trimester/postpartum stage. With so many changes on the horizon you may be feeling overwhelmed or anxious about the unknown. Don’t worry, we are here to dive into all sides of postpartum. We spared no expense with this guide! Our objective here is to tell you all the things no one ever told us. We hope this guide leaves you informed, reassured and ready to enter into this amazing journey.
Let’s jump right into the physical changes your body may go through once you get that beautiful baby earth side. Just know, they call it the miracle of life for a reason. Birth is a miracle!! Let's start by thanking our bodies for growing a tiny human (or humans) for nearly 10 months. (add more here)
Don’t worry if you are feeling pain doing all the simple things. Things that can be painful are sleeping on your stomach (due to engorgement in your breasts), nursing, sitting up in bed, rolling over, walking, doing stairs, etc. In the end, it is normal for all parts of recovery to feel difficult. Take it easy!
If you are unfamiliar with what hemorrhoids are here is a medical description. Hemorrhoids are, “swollen and inflamed veins in the rectum and anus that cause discomfort and bleeding. Hemorrhoids are usually caused from straining during bowel movements, pregnancy or giving birth.” These can also appear on the outside of the anus or the inside. The most common symptom is discomfort when trying to go to the bathroom or when sitting. Other symptoms include itching and bleeding. Hemorrhoids are also extremely common after pushing during birth. Since this topic might feel embarrassing, lots of us were never told how painful they can be OR how to help.
All things milk and breastfeeding can be tricky. Your body creates milk but it doesn’t come in right away. For the first 2 to 5 days after your baby is born, you will make a small amount of colostrum and around day 3 through 5, your milk will come in. Keep in mind your breasts can increase two to three times in size during this time. It can be painful and there can be lots of leaking and sore nipples. There will be lots to figure out but just be patient and know it doesn’t last forever.
Postpartum hair loss is a hard stage. You might feel like you are losing hair by the handfuls and going bald. It is important to realize this isn’t true hair loss. A hormone called estrogen increases during the third trimester of your pregnancy which prevents your usual shedding of hair. As a result, you might feel like your hair is lush and full. After your baby is born that hormone, estrogen, drops drastically. This causes a large number of hairs to enter the resting phase of hair growth. After a few months (typically around 3-4 months pp) this hair starts to shed. Don’t worry too much as most moms see full growth and fullness by their child's 1st birthday. In the meantime, here are our 3 tips for navigating natural hair growth.
Tips:
(down there-use correct anatomy term for what actually hurts here). There are several different things doctors may choose to do in order to get a baby here safely. One of those is called an episiotomy. An episiotomy is a cut in the area between the vagina and anus (perineum) during childbirth. The purpose of an episiotomy is to make the opening of the vagina a bit wider, allowing the baby to come through it more easily. If extra measures aren’t taken there can be natural tearing. Up to 9 in every 10 first time mothers who have a vaginal birth will experience some sort of tear, graze or episiotomy. Both recoveries take time. So with that being said, what happens after? Post-episiotomy swelling and recovery. Swelling after birth (down there) is NORMAL. You will recover and your body will heal. It can be scary and you might not even want to look but rest assured you will feel whole again. Something to note is, the longer you push, the more sore you'll be down there! You might also be more sore and swollen if you are a first time mom. This swelling can make it uncomfortable to even sit down. Along with swelling and soreness you might experience itching. If you have stitches from tearing or from getting an episiotomy those can create itchiness or discomfort.
Imagine you have just given birth, they hand you a beautiful baby, stitch you up and go on their way. You are now responsible for this new little life and it feels like they didn’t give you much instruction. First things first, DO NOT be afraid to ask any and all questions. Don’t feel embarrassed or feel like you should know all the answers. Ask the questions!
One minute you are in the hospital room soaking in those newborn snuggles and the next thing you know you’re tucking your two year old into bed at night. Our advice…take it slow, soak it in and know time is fleeting.
You have carried this baby for 10 months, you have given birth and changed as a person it is ok to not feel whole. You might feel completely different. You might be grieving your old self, body, life, etc and that is OK. It is ok to have a hard time in the newborn and postpartum stage, you can love your baby and not love the stage they are in. Realize it takes time to feel human again. Your body is different!! Rightfully so!! You grew a human and you grew as a human! Don’t compare yourself to anyone else. Your journey will look different. That is normal and ok. Your pre-pregnancy clothes will fit differently for a while (maybe forever!) and that is also ok. Get new clothes if you don't have any that fit. Also plan on wearing loose, comfortable clothes. It is smart to even keep some of those maternity clothes out a while longer to feel comfortable after birth. Don't worry about your "baby weight." Focus on staying hydrated and eating fruits, veggies, proteins daily to support your milk supply. Our advice is to get through the first 6 weeks. Those first 6 weeks may be the happiest, saddest, loneliest and most rewarding time of your life but once you make it past those 6 weeks your baby is getting past the “newborn stage” and you are getting out of the 4th trimester.
Feeling lots of emotions is normal. However, there is a fine line between “normal emotions” and something more. Be sure to speak to your doctor or a mental health professional if you need additional support. Pay close attention to your mental health. Hormones are changing and your body is adjusting and it is OK to need help. Just know, you can put your baby down, even if they are crying. Make sure your baby is in a safe spot and walk away. Don't hesitate to reach out for help if you're feeling overwhelmed. Be sure to attend your 6 week postpartum visit as that is a great time to be evaluated for both mental and physical health. https://medlineplus.gov/lab-tests/postpartum-depression-screening/
The most important thing to note is, every baby is DIFFERENT. You might have heard that your cousin's baby never cried and started sleeping through the night at just two weeks old. That is great for your cousin, but you will (most likely) have a completely different experience. Babies cry… a lot! Some more than others but in the end crying is normal and it is a way for those babies to express themselves.
Regardless of the time of year your baby is born it is important to keep them away from people that are sick. Do not be afraid to say “no, you cannot hold my baby right now”. You might feel nervous about speaking up and hurting their feelings but in the end you are in charge and people will understand. It is important to keep your baby safe! Keep hand sanitizer accessible wherever the baby goes! People will ask to hold your baby, so spritz their hands first, if you want to let them hold it. It is a good idea to set boundaries with visitors and the baby so you feel confident.
Breastfeeding, bottle feeding, formula, pumping half and half etc. Whatever you decide, remember fed is best. Some people love breastfeeding and the bond and connection it brings and others feel stressed and overwhelmed. In the end, your mental health is very important and making sure you are doing what is best for you is ESSENTIAL. Studies show there's no real difference in kids who are breastfed vs formula fed once they’re school-aged. Even if you're planning to exclusively breastfeed, get a pump and a few milk bags. The pump will most often be provided to you by your health insurance. Having a pump is helpful when it comes to leaving the baby, easing engorged breasts and more.
Lets just say being in the same position over and over, whether that is for breastfeeding or holding your baby while they eat or sleep, your body can start to feel the negative effects. A great way to combat that is to get moving! for late night feedings. This is a great way for you and your baby to stay calm and relaxed during those night feedings. Turning on the light and making a big ordeal each time you wake to feed could make it harder for everyone to settle back down.
Breast Milk is more than 80% water. This makes it super important for mom to be hydrated. You will most likely be chugging the water and having a good water bottle makes it easier and fun. Not only will water help your milk supply but it can also help with bowel movements, complexion and more. You should also prioritize your diet. A well rounded diet with fruits, veggies, healthy fats, protein etc will contribute to your milk supply.Pro Tip: Help increase your water intake by adding Boost + Vitamin C. This is a great way to add flavor to your water while also adding essential vitamins and minerals to your diet.
You'll be spending A LOT of time just chilling while you feed the baby. It has been estimated that a mother spends about 1800 hours a year breastfeeding. To quantify that, it isn't far off from a full time job considering that a 40-hour work week with three weeks of vacation comes in at 1,960 hours of work time a year. So with that being said, pick out some shows, books, podcasts or your preferred entertainment ahead of time so you don't just stare at your phone and scroll social media sites! (Unless that's what you're wanting to do. Go ahead). The same is true if you decide to pump and bottle feed or use formula.
Having your house cleaned, organized, and decluttered BEFORE baby comes helps A LOT. It allows you to come home to an organized space that feels clean and inviting for you and your new baby.
Know what you're interested in, but wait until you think you need it to actually buy it! DO NOT spend all of your money and time on baby clothes. They go through them so fast, and sometimes skip sizes! It's great to be prepared and ready with what you think you'll need, but don't go overboard. Pro Tip: Buy diapers gradually over time in various sizes before the baby comes to spread out the costs. Babies can require up to 10-15 diaper changes per day at first.
Try to imagine how you're going to live for the first few months with a baby! Will you mainly be in your room? In the family room on the couch? You will be spending some time in the bathroom for the first few weeks at least. Have a transportable caddy with everything you might need in those quality time spaces. Diapers, thermometers, bum balm, lotion, nosefrida, clippers, extra outfit, socks and gloves, pacifiers, all of it. That way you (or your partner) isn't having to run all over the house every hour or so.
Mentally prepare for the extra time you will need when your baby is here. You will have lots of doctor visits those first few months. Plan to leave the house 20 minutes early, always. Chances are, you'll need that extra 20 with the baby in tow.
When you are in the trenches of motherhood it can be comforting to know you are not alone. Find a wholesome and uplifting parenting page that can be a resource and a comfort during this time. It can be helpful to connect with other moms in the same stage of life. A local mom group can provide support, advice, and friendship. Make sure you join a group that is uplifting, helpful and beneficial to you. Avoid negative talk, drama and bad vibes!

Drowning is the #1 leading cause of death in small children. Here's how to prevent it.
1. Safeguard your pool with fences, self-latching gates, door locks, and alarms. Remove or block off all doggy doors. Don't always rely on these safeguards. Doors can be left open, locks can be disengaged. This is just one safeguard.
2. Skill the child to be able to self-rescue. This is your greatest defense. When all the barriers listed above fail, that is where ISR (Infant Swimming Resource) lessons come into play. Children are strong, impulsive, curious and can get into anything. ISR lessons teach a child to be able to roll to their float, rest, and breath independently! This method saves many lives each year.
3. Create strong routines for having your child ask you permission before entering the water every time! Use every time as a teaching moment. Don't assume your child will always remember what you say so teach routine repeatedly.
4. Always be in the water with your child. You want your child to associate being in the water with you! This builds confidence and trust and it ensures you stay aware of them while they are with you.
5. Designate a Water Watcher. An effective water watcher needs to Stay off mobile devices, keep eyes on the pool at all times, recognize distress, and know CPR. With a drowning victim give Rescue Breaths first! Often times, parents of children who drowned say "it happened so fast". Stay present and avoid distractions that can draw you away from watching your child.
6. When ending a day ensure barriers are in place and clean up all toys out of the pool so they don’t lure a child back to the water. Kids are curious so if they see toys left in the pool, they may think it is still safe to play in the water.
7. If a child is ever missing check the water First! Time is critical so check the water first thing.
8. Do Not use Puddle Jumpers! They put your child in the Vertical (drowning position) in the water. They make a child feel overconfident with no skills to match it. Children that are allowed to jump in while wearing any PFD (personal flotation device) and bob around the water don’t understand that it’s the PFD keeping them above water. So when the PFD is removed and the child finds his way back to water this is where accidents happen. 86% of drownings happen during non-swim time and when a child is fully clothed.
9. Use a US Coast Guard Life Vest when around open water that is unpredictable. No PFD’s are reviewed or recommended for use in a pool.
10. Wear Bright to stay Insight! Dress your child in bright colored swimsuits that are easy to spot, not blues that blend into the water. So avoid blue colored swim suits that make it difficult to see your child in the water.
Drowning is the #1 cause of death for children ages 1-4. It’s silent and can happen in just 21 seconds. Drowning is also Preventable!

It’s fast and easy and it works!
Hormonal changes during pregnancy and after childbirth can affect your skin. Make sure to moisturize your skin regularly to keep it healthy and hydrated. Start with low-impact exercises such as walking, yoga, or Pilates, and gradually increase your intensity and duration over time.
Maintaining a healthy diet is crucial for your health and your baby's health, especially if you are breastfeeding. Eat a well-balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains. Consider meal prepping to ensure that you have healthy meals and snacks on hand.
Connecting with other moms can help you feel less isolated and provide emotional support. Join a mommy and me group, attend a breastfeeding support group, or connect with other moms online through social media groups or forums. Socializing with adults is important. You may feel isolated during those first few months. Just remember, you aren’t alone and there are many others in the same boat. They are trying to understand how to be a parent for the first time.

Declutter according to your personality. Are you an all-or-nothing type of girl? Then set a goal to declutter every part of your house in a week. Create a donations pile, a trash pile, and a give to family/friends pile.
If you’re more of a-little-at-a-time then declutter as you buy. Buy a new shirt, get rid of an old shirt.

]]>The.diaper.bag. I’m totally a bag girl, so when I got pregnant I knew I needed a good diaper bag (or two).
In my 2+ years of being a mama, I’ve never depended on a bag so much. It’s with me everywhere, like it’s my second third child.
Not only is it important to have a good, quality bag but it’s even more important as to what’s inside that bag.
A newborn’s needs might be different than an older child’s needs. Here’s a peek into my diaper bag with a 7-month-old and a 2-year-old.
These are my must-haves! Anything to keep my baby happy, my toddler distracted, and my lips from getting chapped :).
Clean diapers, Bum Balm in case of irritation, change of clothes in case of who knows what, and food options for the older brother.
These are lifesavers for me because whether I’m at work, church, or out with friends I can usually keep my baby happy if he has these.
Now I know a lot of you are seeing my huge list and are probably thinking, “overkill”! But I’d rather be prepared and overpacked then unprepared with a hysterical child.
Poopy diaper at the doctor’s office? No biggie just throw it in your Sassy Bag and secure it in your bag. Just don’t forget to throw it away.
Stayed longer at a friend’s house and your baby is tired? No problem, start that sound machine and find a quiet room so your baby can nap.
Since owning a couple of different diaper bags for the past couple of years there are two non-negotiables I have for all future diaper bags.
I always have my water bottle with me and I never have enough hands to carry everything, so having a way to store my water bottle is huge.
The ability to hold my laptop means I don’t have to carry an extra bag just for that.
Your diaper bag good to haves will depend on your daily activities but everyone can benefit from the essentials in their bag.
Maybe you don’t like carrying a diaper bag around! I know a few people who just carry a purse and leave diapers and wipes in their car for when they need it! Do what works best for you.
You would think with all the things mamas carry that they would have huge muscles. Diaper bag, baby in one arm, pulling out stroller in the other, it’s A LOT.
So my biggest piece of advice is to pack only what you use the most/what you absolutely need the most. This might take a few weeks to test out what you need and what you don’t, depending on your day to day activities.
And if you are buying products that might go in your diaper bag, the smaller and lighter, the better.
Remember you know your baby the best, if your baby has lots of blowouts then maybe two extra pairs of clothes are part of your essentials.

Children (and adults!) are very active sleepers. First off, it’s important to recognize that every child is unique when it comes to sleep, and most kids will experience some difficulties with sleeping at some point during childhood. If you find that your toddler is tossing and turning constantly throughout the night, and this behavior continues night after night, here are some things to consider before seeking help.
Start to observe your child’s sleep hygiene. Sleep hygiene refers to the routines and practices around your child’s sleep: things like a consistent naptime/bedtime, a healthy and safe sleep environment, and a bedtime routine. Most often, sleep problems can be caused by an issue in their sleep hygiene, and placing a focus on improving sleep hygiene can help.
Sleep in babies who are born with a visual impairment can be increasingly difficult. This is caused by the lack of circadian rhythms and the naturally occurring hormone Melatonin. Everyone has a circadian rhythm. It is the primary activity of the brain during the early development of children. Circadian rhythms, which are also known as the sleep-wake cycle, are regulated by light and dark. These rhythms take time to develop, resulting in the irregular sleep schedules of newborns.
The hormone Melatonin is high at night and low during the day. Its development is regulated by a rhythm-generating system, which is in turn regulated by light. Children who have a visual impairment perceive light and dark differently. Melatonin rhythms are altered in a variety of circadian rhythm disorders. Sleep is very important to everyone’s health. If you have a child with a visual impairment, you may need to adopt some different techniques or seek the advice of a medical professional.
Night terrors can be scary! They can be caused by a number of factors, some of which are surprising! Night terrors can be caused by something your child watched or read. Try to monitor what shows your child is watching and avoid anything that you think is scary or that they seem to be scared of! Night terrors can also be caused by overheating, make sure your child is dressing appropriately for the temperature. We all sleep better in cooler temperatures so try to keep the temperature between 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit for sleep.
If your child has night terrors, do not disrupt them or try to wake them up. You can lay next to them or hold them, but do not try to interfere. If your child does not remember or recall the incident the next day, then it was truly a night terror. If they ensue, seek out professional medical advice.
If there was, I wouldn’t have a job! All jokes aside, I know we’d all love an extra 10, 15, 30 minutes in the morning, right? A wake-up time between 6-8 am is biologically normal and appropriate for children ages newborn – school age.
If your child is an early riser, meaning they wake well before 6 am consistently, here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot!
Is their room PITCH black? I mean cave-like. If not, invest in some good blackout shades. These are my two favorite blackout shade options, these are paper and can be cut, they’re great for travel. These are more secure and frame right to your window, no light will come through with these!
Take a look at your child’s overall schedule, consider capping their day sleep if they take mega naps, this can help reallocate sleep to overnight!
Melatonin is a hormone that is naturally produced by the pineal gland in your brain. It is both a chronobiotic agent, meaning that it regulates your circadian or body clock; and a hypnotic, meaning that at higher doses it may induce sleep. Melatonin is usually used for its hypnotic effect, but it does not have this effect on everyone. Only the chronobiotic effect occurs in all individuals.
In regard to safety — unlike many other medications which cause you to fall asleep, you cannot overdose on it and it is not a drug. Melatonin is a natural sleep aid with many studies showing safety and efficacy, however, parents should always consult their pediatrician when using it.

These ingredients are known to be in body washes and used for various purposes, from fragrance enhancers to foaming capabilities. BUT, there are safer ingredients that can do the same job without the issues.
There are all sorts of cleansers. You have gel cleansers, foaming cleansers (cream-to-foam and liquid-to-foam), water-rinsable cream and lotion cleansers, cleansing wipes, bar soaps, and more.
Foaming oil bath washes are exactly what they sound like– a foaming wash that is formulated with essential oils. Essential oils can create the sudsing effect while also providing moisturizing, cleansing, and aromatic benefits.
The ‘oil’ in foaming oil definitely doesn’t mean baby oil. You will not be left with oily skin.
Many foaming oil bath washes come highly concentrated, so one or two pumps can get you or your baby nice and clean. They can also multitask to create the best bubble bath you’ve ever seen.

When we were trying to come up with a safe bath wash, we decided to go the essential oil route so that we could avoid using any synthetic fragrances that are usually chalked full of harsh chemicals and surfactants. We found safe, natural, and effective ingredients that would provide the clean foaming that we love in a good bath wash.
We made sure to formulate it for the most sensitive skin so that brand new babies could use it (and mama could steal it). We are all about multi-purpose products so we also enjoy using our Foaming Oil Bath Wash for shaving cream and bubble baths.

]]>Are you a bath taker? Or do you stick to showers?
We are all about good hygiene, so as long as you’re getting so fresh and so clean, we are fans of bathers and shower(ers) :).
But in honor of the less popular choice of bath takers, we want to call out all the reasons why taking a bath is beneficial.
Before we jump in, we want to address the main argument against taking a bath. People assume that showering is better for cleaning (because you’re not just “sitting in your filth”) but that’s actually not based on any evidence.
If you are covered from head to toe in mud and then hop in the bath, then yes, you’ll be sitting in a mud bath but if you just had a normal day and you want a relaxing bath then go for it! Here’s why.
We aren’t really as dirty as we think we are. The amount of dirt in our bath is likely very minuscule and by soaking in the bath, you let your pores soak up some much-needed moisture. If you are really worried about it, you can always hop in the shower to rinse off all your dirtiness and then soak in the tub for all of these benefits —->.
Have you ever felt under the weather and took a hot bath to feel better? When you are immersed in water (past your chest but with your head out) the temperature of the water plus the pressure of the water on your chest/lungs can influence your lung capacity and oxygen intake. A warmer bath can help your heart to beat faster, your oxygen intake to be improved, and a little steam to clear your sinuses and chest.
Taking a hot bath can help increase blood circulation, which in turn helps remove chemicals that build up in tissues causing some muscle issues. The water also provides buoyancy which can help some with joint issues. The hot water can help relax those bones, muscles, joints, and everything else so you can kick back and soak in the tub.
When your skin is dry, it’s a sign it’s not doing a good job of retaining its moisture (water). Soaking in a bath (opens up your pores) and helps provide that much-needed water. If you really want to provide some TLC to your skin, then remember to do the Soak and Seal Method. Soak in the tub, use a gentle cleanser, avoid scrubbing too hard, and then apply your moisturizer within three minutes to take advantage of your after-bath skin (otherwise your skin might become drier).
A warm bath before bedtime raises your body temperature. Upon exiting the bath, your body will rapidly cool down, helping your body to produce melatonin to better prepare you for sleep. It’s often recommended to sleep in a cold room for a better night’s rest. Our body temperature naturally drops at night to produce melatonin (aka the sleeping hormone) so a warm bath just helps get the melatonin party started.
Did you know that bathing helps bring back feelings of being in the womb (submerged in warm liquid, nice & comfy)? This helps induce feelings of relaxation, easiness, comfort, and security. The quiet isolation can also do wonders for a busy mind.

]]>Now that you’ve seen the checklist, let’s get tips from our in-house cleaning connoisseur. Meet Krista (married to our Creative Director Landon). She is a mama of two just trying to navigate life around toys, crumbs, tears, and sometimes sleep :).
White vinegar and Dawn dish soap are your best friends! Mix that magic in a spray bottle and you can clean your bathroom, kitchen counters, grout, carpet stains, etc. Also, Dawn dish soap and baking soda is the queen of getting hard stains out. Just FYI.
I like to deep clean top to bottom. If I’m deep cleaning the kitchen, I clean the cabinets first, counters, and then the floor. I don’t want to have to sweep twice! If it’s a bedroom, or in my living room, I’ll organize shelving first, and anything that doesn’t belong ends up on the floor in a pile. Everything that belongs downstairs goes in the room it belongs in on the floor, and anything that goes upstairs goes in a basket at the bottom of the stairs. Most of the time I won’t get to put the upstairs basket of stuff away, upstairs is a whole day of work on its own.
It’s a weird way of cleaning, I end up with piles of stuff everywhere that slowly get smaller and smaller, but it’s the only way that works for me. Having a 2-year-old and a 4-month-old, I’d waste too much time running up and down the stairs, or room to room putting things exactly where they go. So stuff gets close, but not put away until I work my way to that room.
A Sneak Peek Into Krista’s Cleaning Schedule
My cleaning schedule is all over the place! The only thing that’s consistent is every evening after the kids are in bed, hubby cleans the kitchen, and I clean the living room. It’s like an archaeological dig, peeling back the layers of my day with a busy toddler. I vacuum on the weekends if I can, but most of the time that’s something that gets pushed back until we’re swimming through crushed graham crackers, and obliterated Nutri-grain bars. Our toddler is obsessed with vacuuming, a 5-minute vacuum turns into an hour-long ordeal… so I avoid vacuuming at all costs even though it’s my favorite chore.
Cleaning with a Toddler and an Infant
Cleaning with a toddler and an infant is borderline impossible, and that’s something I’ve come to accept. Most days I know I won’t be able to get to a chore, and that has to be okay. Sometimes I try and clean when the kids are napping, but if I don’t feel like it, I just don’t clean. When I do feel up to cleaning with my toddler around, I give him a job because he loves being a helper (even though his help is garbage, ha!). I’ll draw with a washable marker all over the fridge, and give him a spray bottle covered in stickers, and a sponge. The other day I opened a package of diapers and threw them all over the room, and gave him a box to put them back in. While he was doing that, I got a load of laundry in the washer.
How Does Krista Keep Track of Her Cleaning Schedule?
I don’t really have a cleaning schedule, and mostly because I feel like I’m cleaning all the time. You can’t tell at all, because cleaning with a toddler is like chasing a tornado with a vacuum cleaner. Whenever I step on something sticky and shake it off just to step on something else sticky, I know it’s time to clean.
There are so many spring cleaning things I want to do, but with what’s going on in the world right now, I’m limited in what I can do. I’ve been itching to do a DIY closet remodel, but I can’t go to Target to load up on baskets, or Home Depot for lumber. In the meantime, I’m taking things down, and putting them back slightly more organized. Not as much as I would like to be doing right now, but it’s what I can do. Especially with a toddler hanging onto my legs!

3. You Need Your Water-Soluble Vitamins
There are 9 water-soluble vitamins found in the human diet:
Water-soluble vitamins are generally not stored in the body, which means you need to get them regularly from your diet, or from your daily multi :).
If you aren’t getting these in your diet, then you definitely need a multivitamin to help with that!
4. You’re Not Feeling Your Best
Maybe you’re feeling a bit foggy or looking for something to help you feel like your best self, a multivitamin might help!

]]>2. Talk to Them: Let them ask questions about what’s going on. Teach them about handwashing, how to cough into their arm, and staying away from people who are sick (if they happen to be outside). Here’s a great resource from the CDC. Also, it’s just as important to pay attention to what your children can hear (from your conversations, tv, radio, etc.).
3. Guided Imagery and Relaxation Scripts: Do you have a child who is anxious, angry, or hyper? Try these relaxation and guided imagery scripts to help them calm down. These are also great to help your kids wind down for bedtime. Click the images for PDFs.
Now for parents.
1. Simplify. I’ll let you choose what these fully mean. But here are some quick ideas:
- Meal Plan. You might have limited choices with food right now, so this can help you use what you have in your pantry.
- Spring Clean. Get rid of things that you aren’t using. Or put away winter gear for spring items!
- Set the Stage. If there are certain areas of your house that you’re hanging out in right now, clean it out. Less clutter, more fun.
2. Snack Time(s). Does anyone else find themselves snacking ALL DAY? Have designated snack times/snack portions (outside of your normal meal times). You can make this as strict (or not) as you want.
3. Game Time. Staring at screens all day can be exhausting, no seriously. Between school/work, FaceTime, and your favorite shows, your eyes are probably worn out. Pull out a puzzle or a board game and have fun with the fam.
